for Mies

I was invited to present for Mies at the Barcelona Pavilion during Barcelona Architecture Week 2018. It was performed during the presentation of the first call for the Lilly Reich grant for equality in architecture, with subsequent performances in different areas of the pavilion.

The work was composed in 2015 and first presented at Mies’ Carr Chapel in Chicago. It is intended as an acknowledgement of Mies’ broader architectural aesthetic and may be presented in any of his buildings. For more information about the compositional methodology please refer to the Carr Chapel project page.

Built for the Barcelona International Exhibition of 1929, the pavilion was demolished the following year. The structure was meticulously reconstructed on the original site, opening to the public in 1986. The project was overseen by the architects Ignasi de Solà-Morales, Cristian Cirici and Fernando Ramos. It was a joy to present the work in a different Miesian environment and to discuss my compositional approach with Fernando Ramos, who attended the event.
